Cipherfall: World Summary

Overview

Cipherfall is a 3D WebGL MMORPG set in a cipherpunk world called Stratum. The game features two opposing player factions (Breakwater and Groundworks), 30 NPC factions, 50+ zones, 1,500+ quests, 1,000+ NPCs, 1,000+ enemy types, and 40+ bosses. The level cap is 30, but the content density and volume match WoW Classic's 1-60 progression.

World Structure

Continents

  • Veridia: Surface world dominated by The Trust, megacorps, and surveillance infrastructure.
  • Umbra: Underground continent home to the resistance, rogue AI, and forgotten infrastructure.

Player Factions

  • Breakwater: Dismantle the surveillance state first, rebuild after. Focus on direct action, sabotage, and destruction.
  • Groundworks: Build parallel systems that make the old one obsolete. Focus on infrastructure, encryption, and anonymous trade.

Reputation System

  • Levels: Hostile (Red), Unfriendly (Orange), Neutral (Yellow), Friendly (Green), Honored (Light Green)
  • Max Starting Level: Honored (edge cases only)
  • Most Factions Start: Friendly
  • No Exalted Tier

PvP Mechanics

  • Starter Zones: PvP disabled by default. Opposing faction appears Yellow (Neutral). Cannot attack unless you attack first.
  • Cross-Zone PvP: Enabled in all zones except starter zones. Color-coded by level difference.
  • Color Coding: Red (Hostile), Orange (Unfriendly), Yellow (Neutral), Green (Friendly), Light Green (Honored), Light Blue (Protected)

Lore Principles

  • No achievements system.
  • No crypto-bro jargon.
  • No real-world parallels.
  • Lore is in the world, not in text dumps.
  • Both factions are anti-surveillance. Conflict is ideological.
  • Quests serve gameplay, not overwhelming the player with lore.
  • World is fictional. No real countries, geopolitics, or references.
